How to Perfectly Decorate for a Charity Fundraising Event

Throwing a fundraiser event for a charity is a noble cause, but one that takes a lot of planning and effort. Even though the focus should remain on the cause itself, you still want your guests to enjoy themselves and have a good time. Striking the right balance between “fun” and “fundraiser” with your decor can be difficult, so we’ve put together a few bits of advice to make sure your event runs perfectly from the moment the doors open.

Set the mood with lighting.

Whether you’re having a dinner, an auction event, or a dance party, make sure that the lighting is appropriate for the events planned. If your resources are limited, try experimenting with accent lights or uplighting to add more ambiance.

Keep it simple and practical.

Since your goal is to raise money for a charity, your donors probably won’t mind if there’s no elaborate champagne fountain. However, it does pay to be practical when renting table linens, for example. Compared to other vegetable fibers, real linen tablecloth rentals are the strongest type of fabric — two to three times stronger, in fact, than cotton. You can also ask local florists for donations of bouquets to use as centerpieces.

Reflect your theme.

Choose an aesthetic theme that will offer a subtle reminder of the cause to your guests. For example, if you are raising money for a Florida wildlife group, you can find specialty linen rentals in oceanic blue or coral pink. Just be sure that your decorations support the theme, but don’t distract from the main course of events.

Remember a parting favor.

In addition to thanking your guests for their contributions, a parting gift can help spread the word about your future fundraising events. When your donors’ friends hear about the wonderful time they had at your event, they’ll be sure to sign up for the next one themselves.

Organizing any event takes a lot of patience and careful consideration, from renting table linens to choosing the right music. But making the effort to throw a charity fundraiser is often a reward in itself, knowing that you and your guests are having fun in the name of a good cause.
